my contribution
I thought being a good parent meant having the answers.
As my daughters moved into their teenage years, I found myself worrying more, advising more and trying harder to help.
Until I realised something.
The more I tried to solve things for them, the more distance I was creating between us.
So I began asking a different question:
What kind of relationship do I actually want with my daughters?
That question changed the way I parented — and ultimately changed the work I do today.
My contribution to Superconscious Parenting shares that journey — becoming more aware of how I was showing up and discovering what became possible when I changed first.

Their pull towards independence was not rejection.
It was growth.
A different perspective
What is Superconscious Parenting?
It is a different way of thinking about how we parent.
Superconscious parenting centres on emotional connection, empathy and deep self-awareness for both parents and children.
Traditional parenting, particularly authoritarian approaches, often places greater emphasis on rules, obedience and immediate behavioural responses.
Superconscious parenting asks us to look more deeply.
It focuses on nurturing emotional intelligence and self-regulation in both parent and child. As parents, we take responsibility for our own emotional reactions first, modelling healthy responses rather than simply reacting in the moment.
This helps create an environment where children feel valued, heard and safe to express themselves authentically.
WHY I CHOSE TO CONTRIBUTE
This book has a personal connection for me.
My connection to Christopher Michael Duncan and his work began well before Superconscious Parenting.
Chris was the coach who helped me recognise and reprogram patterns within myself through Superconscious Recode. I spent twelve months in his weekly group coaching and later completed six months of training as a Magnetic Mind Coach.
That experience gave me an opportunity to look more deeply at my own thinking, reactions and patterns, which naturally influenced the way I began to see myself as a parent, too.
So when Chris asked for coauthors for Superconscious Parenting, there was a meaningful connection between the work I had experienced personally and the perspective I could now bring from my own parenting, education and work with young people and families.
In many ways, contributing to this book brought those two parts of my journey together.
Sometimes changing what happens between us begins with noticing
what is happening within us.
what's inside
Parenting through the years that change everything.
My contribution to Superconscious Parenting explores many of the questions that arise as children move through the pre-teen and teenage years — as friendships become more important, independence grows, technology becomes part of everyday life and the relationship between parent and child begins to change.
I explore topics including:
PRE-TEENS & TEENS
CONNECTION & COMMUNICATION
CONFIDENCE & RESILIENCE
TECHNOLOGY & SOCIAL MEDIA
FRIENDSHIPS & PEER PRESSURE
SIBLING & FAMILY DYNAMICS
LEARNING & INDEPENDENCE
MENTAL HEALTH & RISKY CHOICES
The aim is to help you better understand what your young person is navigating, stay connected as they grow, and support them to become increasingly confident and capable of navigating life for themselves.

A book for the parenting journey you are already on.
Superconscious Parenting invites you to reflect on how you show up, how your relationship with your child is evolving, and what becomes possible when greater awareness and intention become part of everyday parenting.
Ten authors. Ten perspectives.
One invitation to parent with greater awareness.
Meet Tara Smith
Behaviour & Performance Specialist, speaker, author and former educator with more than 20 years' experience working with children, young people and the adults who influence them.
A proud mother of twin daughters, Tara's work has also been shaped by her own experience of parenting through the pre-teen, teenage and young adult years — and recognising that as her daughters grew, her role needed to grow with them.
Today, Tara helps parents and those who lead young people look beyond the behaviour in front of them, strengthen connection and create the conditions for confidence, capability and greater independence to develop.
Her work explores many of the moments that shape family life as children grow — communication, friendships and peer pressure, technology and social media, sibling and family dynamics, emotional wellbeing, learning, independence and the increasingly complex choices young people begin to make for themselves.
At the heart of Tara's work is a simple question:
Who are we ultimately trying to help this young person become capable of?
Her contribution to Superconscious Parenting brings together her experience as a mother, educator and Behaviour & Performance Specialist, offering a perspective grounded in greater awareness of how we show up, the relationships we create and the influence we have as our children grow.
